The New Music Video from Happy Camper

Posted in Movies & Theater, Music on February 21st, 2011 by Sinan

I thought it would be nice the start the week with a cool song and its awesome music video. I accidently landed on it this weekend. Happy Camper is a music project realized by Dutch composer Job Roggeveen. The video below is the video for his hit song “Born with a bothered mind” sang by Bouke Zoete. Manfred, of whom I became a big fan, is the fictional “big-foot” character that hilariously carries this song to the screen.

The song’s title and lyrics are a depressing testament to how we all exaggerate every tiny problem and how we become victims of our own paranoia:

I was born with a bothered mind
made me tense, and a little shy
everytime I’d turn around
I hesitated for a while

you might say I am a doubtful guy
yes I doubt ‘bout this and that and why,

Why do I treat myself like this?
What if, what if, what if?
I’d choose meat instead of fish?

We are all indeed born with a bothered mind. Happy Camper takes this torturous reality and turns into an entertaining story with Manfred’s day out camping.

The skiing season is finally here and I can’t wait to hit the slopes. Just like the previous years, I wanted to prepare a mix that can blast through my backpack and keep the energy pumped up. Don’t be fooled by the mystical intro, Unload Here promises to be one of my most funky mixes (although it is only 28 min.) Download and enjoy!

From Fabrics to the Stage

Running a textile firm in Turkey leads you to unexpected intros. On an ordinary afternoon a blond woman with perky lips, tight cheeks and a well-defined chin showed up in our showroom with her two assistants. Fluent in Turkish, she was talking to the people next to her in a different dialect. Our short conversation led me to find out that she is a famous Azerbaijani pop singer.

Give it up for my new client at Mikroteks: Brilliant Dadaşova.

P.S.: My favorite song of her so far is “Qelbim kusub senden”, but that one does not yet have a music video.

iPodville by Sinanation

I am crazy for music and I have been going a little nuts over sampling, downloading, categorizing and mixing. I can’t help it.

Ultimate access to global beats, from tribal music to exclusive nightclub tunes, has been ours ever since the computer met up with the Internet, the iTunes and the iPod. For that, I am forever grateful. Yet, I can’t disregard the few problems this sweet convenience made way to. Abundance brought in unlimited thirst: favored songs outdated faster. Portability brought in isolation, at home, on the train, in flight, on the beach: I got a little deafer with and more and more sedated on my tunes.

I realize the problem and I embrace it. It was all personal until friends started noticing this obsession and wanted to join in the vibe.

I think I must be doing a good job considering the number of CDs and iPods I keep receiving to be synchronized with my tunes. I am happy and proud to share. Here is iPodville by Sinanation:

Total Population: 3,368 songs
Current Mayor: iTunes
Music for: 12.6 days
Number of Playlists: 33+
Number of personal DJ sets: 24
Number of Outdated Songs (that I don’t have the guts to delete): 270+

Bad Bad Bad incredibly Sweet Habit

Posted in DEBATES, IDEAS, ETC., Music on January 19th, 2011 by Sinan

It is sad to dream of dangerous amounts of alcohol and flashy girls with a mix of popular dance beats, disco lights, tuna tartar, french fries, steak and an ice cream topped with a season finale of an incredibly fat bill. It is inhumane to still step in it knowing that a single table of fun could temporarily solve the problems of hundreds suffering from hunger. It is even worse to do it when you know it is bad for your health. But admit it, like a little child admits for sweets, like a smoker admits for nicotine: we are all a bit in love with the dark side. We are all ready to take the pain and the heart break for a few hours of sizzled-up vicious fun beyond our own limits. We are all a little selfish, a little crazy in the head. Here are the few party places I wish I never knew about (especially at the office). Do you have any others to add on the list?

Floripa, Brasil – Cafe de la Musique:

Psarou Beach, Mykonos, Greece – Nammos Restaurant:

Courchevel, France – Le Cap Horn:

St. Tropez, France – La Voile Rouge:

New York, NY, USA – The Oak Room:

Viktor Lazlo

Posted in Music on January 18th, 2011 by Sinan

This amazing French singer with an original name of Sonia Dronier (she took her stage name Viktor Lazlo from the character of Viktor Laszlo in the famous 1942 movie Casablanca) is one the greatest when it comes to slow/romantic songs. My most favorite Lazlo song is “Waiting for the Night”. I have been trying to track it down for a long time and still couldn’t download it to my iTunes library. Let me know if you find it somewhere. Sinanation would forever be grateful. Until then here is a YouTube version (with a freaky background image):

P.S.: Thanks to Seda, I got the link to finally download “Waiting for the night”. I thank her again for all her help.

The Catwalk – Sinan Bastas

When your best friend arranges a birthday party equipped with a professional photographer, an amazing studio, good food, alcohol and great friends, you need someone to compile an equally good mix. Here is what I came up with for Eko‘s “A Series of Unforgettable Photos” that took place on a Sunday a few days ago.

Find me that song or else?

Posted in Music on November 11th, 2010 by Sinan

It is midnight and I start the engine to make my way home. As I stroll through the Bosphorous, a song pops out on the radio that is so good. It pushes me to test the limits of the volume and forces me into a black hole of anxiety at the same time. How will I ever find this song!

I rush to the Internet knowing that the station has a website where it lists all the songs played from the previous day. At 23:57 on Thursday ,Claude Challe – Track 12 flowed into my ears with an incredibly well composed melody. I hummed it as long as I could. I kept waiting for a few lyrics to be able track it down. I e-mailed and called the station. No reply. I even tried a few track 12s from well-known Challe albums like a psychopath. No luck.

All I am left with is a vague recall of a sweet melody, at 23:57, on a chilly Thursday night, next to the Bosphrous, alone with Voyage FM and Claude Challe – Track 12. All my music detective skills consumed. Helpless. Hopeless. Waiting for the next magical day when I can hear it once again.
