I remember the day I bumped into my first Aubade ad inside a shopping mall in Georgetown. It was the day I decided there is no better cover for a woman’s tender rear bumps.

If you have room for desert even after the second round of steak (I usually do), order the profiteroles. The food is exceptional here and the wait is undeniable (approx. 1 hour). I say go right at the opening (7 p.m.) or much later (around 10 p.m.).

I can’t do without eating at this Chinese heaven whenever I visit Paris. Simply the best Peking Duck I have ever eaten anywhere in the world so far. The bill might sizzle your wallet depending on how big your appetite is. The fancy crowd will distract you from the delicious food from time to time. No matter what, shop a little less on Saint-Honore and reward yourself with this exceptional duck.

The price tag is close to USD 10m.

I get it. Paris should be about la nourriture Francaise, but my great experience at this place force me to write about another cuisine. I guess a few of my friends (two in particular) will agree with me when I say that Lo Sushi is one of the funnest restaurants in Paris. I won’t claim that it has the best sushi in France, but I can gladly say that it is the most social and interactive restaurant in the capital of fashion. Like many other sushi places around Europe, Lo Sushi has that sushi railroad mechanism installed, from which you get to pick your favorite wagons and eat their contents. Each plate is colored based on its pricing and can be stacked on top of one another to display the strength of its user’s appetite. Yet what makes Lo Sushi so special is its Pont Neuf location enhanced with individual touchscreen computers. Once you take your place around the bar you can interact with anyone at the restaurant through the screens. You can send drawings, images and messages by just clicking on the target seating. I am pretty sure that the Champs-Elysees location is still open, but our favorite Pont Neuf might not be there any longer.

I don’t think there will ever be a competitor to LaDuree in the category of deserts, but after a million of vanilla macarons one might like to try a different, unexpected flavor. Pierre Herme is a cave of wonders when it comes to mixing weird ingredients to make a delicious macaron. Not all turns out good in my opinion, but some are definitely worth eating. The bakery comes out with new flavors every season. The regularly changing display is also a site to see. Locations available at www.pierreherme.com

I should have written this post a long time ago. Maybe I just avoided it because these little round desert cushions are so hard to find. Macarons, crisp on the outside, smooth and soft in the middle are the biggest inventions of the  Paris-based bakery Laduree. Working in the family business it was the founder’s cousin Pierre Desfontaines who have thought of creating the first macaron with a ganache filling in the middle. According to Laduree once prepared the macarons are put aside for two days to be hardened and served to its customers. I have first tried this unavoidable desert in the famous Champs-Elysees store randomly in the summer of 2004. The light green color of the bakery glittered with yellow gold looked really inviting. Once we were inside it was bakery heaven with tens of different kinds of deserts displayed over a long cold marble with hundreds of different flavored macarons decorating one corner. I can’t remember how many times we have devoured numerous macarons on the chairs outside the bakery. I believe I tried every flavor to be able to say that the vanilla macaron is certainly the best.
