The Singapore Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong urged his citizens to reproduce in the Year of the Rabbit. He gave the furry animal’s fame in the act of sex as a motivational example. It is only logical that Mr. Loong considers the survival of his country’s economy and the strength of its young population when he addresses his people in the mist of the legendary Lunar Year celebration. Yet, I am obliged to remind him how over-populated the word already is and how with a single breath each of us suck out every drop of resource found on this bountiful place we call home.
It becomes harder and harder for the Earth to preserve the natural cycle. The poor become poorer. The storms become stronger (check: Tropical Cyclone Yasi in Australia). The heat wave expands (check: the Antarctic ice meltdown). These are all signs of an armageddon moving at a slow pace.
So, PM Loong, I say let’s still act like rabbits, but be a little wiser and not mix the fluids.
