We made it to 2011 and there are still a few things that bug me in terms of our advancement in society. Here are those few items that we are still in desperate need of, but couldn’t innovate/redesign in any way.

UMBRELLA: Yes we all hate to get wet during winter and cling on an umbrella on a rainy day like a bee on the sweetest nectarine until we forget/lose the damn thing somewhere. Or let’s say as a result of some great miracle we succeed in guarding the umbrella throughout the whole day. We start the journey back home and an unexpected wind devours our little tent of heaven, breaking almost all of its weak metal arms. Or let’s dream of an utopia and imagine a windless rainy day. We do a little shopping and grab a few bags. So now which hand holds the umbrella? Wouldn’t you give anything to own a pet octopus?

METAL COINS: I dread the day I go into a shop, select and item for 2-3 (may God forbid 1.5!) Turkish Lira and present a 5 lira bill. I step outside with the shiny coins in my side pocket and start to play a new version of Jingle Bells right away. Even the full volume earphones can’t isolate the dreadful sound. I know it is costly and more destructive to the environment to print paper bills, but can’t we come up with a currency less in mood to sing a jolly song each time it makes it into my pocket? And no, giving all the change to a street beggar is not the solution I am looking for here!
