I am on an unexpected “good movie” roll this month and I like it. Right after Frozen, All Good Things hit the black screen in my living room. It is another success in the area of mystery/thriller, brilliantly disturbing the audience with its intriguing plot and dedicated actors. Ryan Gosling and Kirsten Dunst both deliver amazing performances trying to depict the twisted story of Robert Durst, a disturbed American billionaire whose wife went missing 9 years into their marriage.
This movie is based on real facts, but spices up the expectations with wise snapshots, appropriate coloring and incredible acting. The cold shivers, the dark frightens and the play on time disturbs at the right moment. There is a naive girl diving into the arms of a rich guy who appears to be charismatic, fun and completely independent. Yet she soon realizes nothing is as it seems and she is not able to break free. Kirsten takes on this incredible struggle of Kathleen McCormick (the never found wife of Robert Dust).
There is the psychologically disturbed older son to a distant father, an heir to an incredible fortune built on dark businesses who has witnessed the suicide of his mother at a young age. His fight to find inner peace is constantly disturbed by natural obligations. Ryan takes on the confusing character of Robert Dust.
Despite all the good in this movie, the fact that it had to adhere to the facts of a real life story challenged it at character analysis. I hoped to see more interaction between the mother and her abused daughter. I wished for a little more face-to-face between the father and the son. There was no more room to expand the focus. All Good Things did the best it could and it still is a “must see” movie in my book.

another movie we both like. i forgot what was the other one. finding nemo? hahaha
