The New Year’s is weeks away and I am already stressed out. The brainstorming sessions on what to do to celebrate a new set of 12 months gain speed as we get closer to the end of the year.

I know from experience that it is best to avoid all the regular night spots to avoid huge crowds and inflated prices. Yet, one has to take charge and lead the clan to an alternative plan that involves good people, food and music. Although this role is dreaded by almost everyone, there is always a few victims in the pack who are meant to be the drivers. They always plan ahead and feel incomplete without a confirmed event. I confess that I am one of those people and I regret it with all my heart.

Honestly I am OK with managing all the details of the night (hopefully with other reliable friends like Ekin and Fuat), but I hate to be the one that manages the never-ending financing and listens to all the “other suggestions”, recommendations and complaints.

We should remind ourselves this whenever we make smart-ass suggestions to any organizer: “You take the lead if you think you can do better and cheaper. And if you don’t then please cease the feedback and just be content with whatever is being offered.”
